It amazes me how reluctant I am to engage in the disciplined practice of cold calling. But my calls are not really cold. We have identified the people. We have sent then a snail mail package with an article. It is really more of a followup call. We use Salesforce.com to track what we are doing. But I still have to push myself to do it. Guess that is what it means to be in “introvert”.

Whether you call it “cold” calling or “follow-up” calling, the requirement to do the actual call is the basis for all sales roles. Unfortunately even many of the best sales people that I know find the task to be a challenge. Something they would prefer to avoid. Yet if the sales person’s phone rings they are always more than happy to answer it. The difference between feeling like you are “bothering” someone and someone wanting to engage in conversation with you.
